Spending Earth Day En-Gaged

Writer: kfmexchangekfmexchange

In Celebration of Earth Day, a group of dedicated volunteers from Target, CURE, and En-Gage Riverside came together to make a lasting impact on the community. The event took place at the Casa Blanca Home of Neighborly Service, a center known for its commitment to education, mental health support, and community outreach in Riverside.

The project: planting 20 avocado trees to enhance food security and support the center's weekly soup kitchen. Bonnet Irrigation generously donated the irrigation supplies, and Greenbelt Growers sourced the avocado trees, a thank you to them for playing a key role in the success of this planting event.

A Celebration of Earth Day and Community Unity

The Casa Blanca Home of Neighborly Service is more than just a community center; it's a beacon of hope and a place where people from all walks of life can find support and encouragement. With a charter school, educational after-school programs, Bible studies, mental health support meetings, and recreation facilities, it serves as a hub for education and community-building. Additionally, the center hosts a weekly soup kitchen, providing meals to those in need.

On Earth Day, volunteers from Target, CURE, and En-Gage Riverside came together to plant 20 avocado trees on the grounds of Casa Blanca. This initiative was more than just a symbolic gesture; it was a tangible effort to enhance food security within the community.

Planting for a Greener Future

The planting of avocado trees represents a commitment to sustainability and a brighter future for the community. Avocado trees are not only a valuable source of nutritious food but also contribute to the environment by absorbing carbon dioxide and providing shade. These trees will be a lasting legacy, yielding fruit for years to come, and supporting the soup kitchen's mission to provide meals for the poor.

The event was a success thanks to the dedicated volunteers and organizations that made it possible. A special thank you goes to CURE for organizing the event. CURE's mission is to protect green space parks and ensure a high quality of life for residents, as well as to promote environmental stewardship. They played a crucial role in coordinating the day's activities.

We also want to express our gratitude to En-Gage Riverside for providing the avocado trees. En-Gage Riverside's mission is to protect, preserve, and promote agriculture and food security within the city of Riverside. Their contribution of the trees underscores the importance of agriculture in urban settings and the role it plays in supporting local communities.

Looking Ahead

The Earth Day celebration at CBHNS  is a testament to the importance of community involvement and environmental stewardship. By planting avocado trees, the volunteers from Target, CURE, and En-Gage Riverside have not only made a meaningful contribution to the community's food security but have also set a precedent for future collaborations.

The Casa Blanca Home of Neighborly Service will continue to be a place of growth, learning, and support. With these new avocado trees, they have an additional resource to bolster their programs and further serve those in need. As we look ahead, let's remember that every tree planted and every act of kindness makes a difference. Together, we can create a more sustainable and compassionate world.
